Since 2018, Mary has sat as sole arbitrator and as a tribunal member, including as chair. She has been appointed to ad hoc, institutional, domestic and international arbitrations. She has issued decisions related to mining developments, oil and gas projects, pipeline issues, pharmaceutical development, and complex construction and commercial disputes. She has numerous recognitions and awards and was recognized by Best Lawyers as the 2023 Lawyer of the Year in International Arbitration in Vancouver. In 2024 she accepted an 5 year appointment to the Ontario Independent Electricity System Operator Dispute Resolution Panel.

As counsel, Mary represented various producers in numerous arbitrations related to the electricity industry from 1991 to 2017. Starting in the early 1990’s she conducted many commercial arbitrations related to power purchase arrangements and related issues, as well as resource matters and construction disputes.

Mary has acted as counsel in numerous domestic and international disputes related to general commercial matters, including natural gas pricing, wind power production and pricing, co-generation production and construction.

She has acted on numerous complex commercial matters, including acting for a major chemical company in a complex commercial dispute related to the operation, production and ownership of a chemical production facility.

Mary has acted for many international oil and gas companies in disputes regarding the production of heavy oil, royalty disputes related to both Crown and freehold royalties, well completion, marketing, joint venture, natural gas processing and environmental issues. Additionally, she has represented numerous oil and gas companies in matters related to aboriginal consultation and project development.

Mary has acted for mining companies in disputes related to the staking of claims and land development.

She has represented corporate clients with respect to reorganizations and plans of arrangement pursuant to the Canada and Alberta Business Corporations Acts.

Mary acted for the federal Crown in the Federal Court of Canada action brought by four Indian Bands claiming damages in excess of $1 billion, successfully leading the oil and gas related claims defence.
